14-18 NOW is the UK’s official arts programme marking the centenary of the First World War. It is a five-year programme of extraordinary arts experiences connecting people with WWI working with arts and heritage partners all across the UK commissioning new artworks from leading contemporary artists, musicians, designers and performers, inspired by the period 1914-18.
Since the start of the First World War centenary in 2014, 14-18 NOW has commissioned over 140 artworks, which have been seen by more than 30 million people. Their new season of events launched recently across the UK to mark the centenary of the Armistice and end of World War I featuring brand new artworks by some of the world’s leading contemporary artists.
Katrina Palmer’s work, The Coffin Jump, is particularly exciting because it is inspired by the role of women in the First World War with specific reference to the First Aid Nursing Yeomanry (FANY). Find out more here.
