Members of the First Aid Nursing Yeomanry (Princess Royal’s Volunteer Corps (FANY (PRVC)) came together with family and friends to celebrate the friendship and service that has defined the Corps since its formation in 1907.
The event took place at Wellington Barracks, home of the Foot Guards, and was named ‘Duty of Cake’ in recognition of our heritage; during World War 1, the FANY established an official Cake League where members pledged to send regular cake deliveries to fellow FANYs serving at Camp du Ruchard in France. The focus of the day was a ‘Duty of Cake’ competition, judged by Channel 4’s Great British Bake Off judge, Paul Hollywood, who is also a steadfast supporter of the Corps. In parallel, the Duty of Care Team also had a stall to highlight the support available 'in-house' for the wellbeing and welfare of FANYs.
Paul sampled an impressive array of cakes, all of which had a FANY theme, before making his decision, and announcing new FANY member Laura Bulloch as the star baker.
Lisa Giles, Commanding Officer of the Corps, said:
“This has been a wonderful example of FANYs coming together with friends and family to celebrate everything that we know and love about the Corps.
"Throughout their service, every FANY dedicates herself to assisting others. Our motto of ‘Arduis Invicta’ or “In difficulties, unconquered” is an essential mindset, our underpinning during difficult deployments. We understand the cost of service and are thankful for all who help FANYs to serve: family members, friends, our own Duty of Care Team, employers, and other champions.
"We are also so grateful to Paul Hollywood for his ongoing support, and to Pol Roger and St Ermin’s for their generous donations.”
Laura Bulloch, FANY member and Winner of the Duty of Cake Competition, said:
"I am one of the newer members of the Corps having joined in June 2026. Taking part in Duty of Cake was a fantastic experience. I loved seeing everyone’s creativity shine through in the incredible variety of cakes on display. Given the exceptionally high standard of the competition, I was genuinely surprised, and absolutely delighted, to win!"
