10 FANYs provided support to the D-Day 80 event in Portsmouth on Wednesday 5 June, which was a major part of a series of major commemorations and events across the UK and in France commemorating the 80th anniversary of the Normandy Landings on 6 June 1944. Members were providing support to those requiring additional assistance throughout the morning with seating and ensuring that everyone attending had the best possible day.
The event shared stories from a wide range of veterans who played a part in D-Day, and welcomed two veterans to the stage who were able to share their stories in person. It was a real privilege to be able to support the event, and an honour to hear from so many veterans who were a part of such a monumental part of our history securing the freedom we enjoy today.
We will remember them.
We have also published a guest blog on the Women in Defence website here - written by Lt Nicola Iles - detailing the Corps' involvement in D-Day. Click here to read.
