Somme Centenary

After a short audition, Caroline Squire was selected and was asked to read an excerpt from the diary of a nurse who served during the months of the battle. It was a really moving reading and Caroline performed it with great feeling and with no sign of stage fright, despite the high powered audience.

The DCMS also asked if we could provide two additional members to support them in getting all the visitors onto their chartered Eurostar at Ebbsfleet for the journey under the channel. Kate and Rachel got up very early in order to be there at 5am, but their reward was to travel with the group to Thiepval and watch the event.

On the same day, members of the Corps also attended other Somme events at Westminster Abbey and in Manchester Cathedral.
