London Half Marathon. Sunday 12th October.
A major fund-raising opportunity for the Corps. Support the FANY by running in our team.
FANYs train as members of the City of London Casualty Bureau Documentation Team. There are opportunities to train additionally as Incident Support Officers. FANYs provide assistance for Business Continuity in the City, working at the Guildhall for the Corporation of London after a Major Incident or attack.
They practise the diplomacy and skill to deal with difficult situations and learn the importance of accuracy and efficiency to input vital data. They train alongside TA Units in the army response to civil emergencies.
FANYs registered missing people from the Tsunami of Boxing Day 2004, they worked on the Ops Room Media desk during the Firefighters' Strikes and dealt with casualty enquiries after the Potters Bar and Hatfield train crashes. In the London Bombings of July 2005, FANYs were called out by the City of London Police to open up the Casualty Bureau; they went on from there to give assistance to the overworked Met. Police in the Fusion Cell at Scotland Yard for over two and a half weeks, following the incidents.
The Corps continuously offers a full and varied training programme designed to build confidence, develop existing skills and introduce new experiences, enabling members to be fully equipped to deal with whatever is asked of them. The Corps prides itself on its flexibility and ingenuity. Preparing for the unexpected is hard to specify, but the Corps produces teams familiar with one another's strengths, confident together and supportive of one another.
